PAYS is an innovative solution where the
financial savings effectively cover the cost of the investment thereby negating
the need to find capital and producing an immediate positive cash flow.
Chalmor has published three Endurance
case studies that demonstrate the energy and maintenance savings that
Endurance has achieved in leisure, manufacturing and
the food manufacturing sectors.

PAYS
is an innovative solution where the financial savings effectively cover the cost
of the investment thereby negating the need to find capital and producing an
immediate positive cash flow. For complete peace of mind PAYS includes
Chalmor’s Silver Service maintenance support for the duration of the
agreement. With fixed repayments
and energy costs set to rise in future PAYS should produce even better than the
projected benefits. For all PAYS proposals Chalmor can factor in all
associated cost savings over the life of the project so reduced maintenance etc.
can be included as well as the resultant energy savings.
For sites with large energy costs Chalmor
has successfully developed a shared energy saving concept for education
premises. Energy Governor is a
complete energy management service where the savings achieved pay all the costs
without the to put the school in a positive cash flow position without having to
provide any capital investment. The Energy Governor service includes
expert energy advice, capital equipment and installation all backed with an on
going energy monitoring and support service to ensure that the energy savings
projected are realised and sustained.
Energy Governor takes a whole school
approach to energy savings and seeks to identify areas of maximum energy savings
potential. The service includes an
energy survey, analysis of past utility consumption and a benchmarking exercise
that forms the basis for future evaluation. By comparing energy performance to other similar schools
areas for improvement etc. can be identified.
All too frequently Energy Governor’s expert eye looking over the bills
has uncovered mistakes that for one school negotiated a healthy rebate repaid by
cheque of over £10,000!
Performance is audited annually and Energy
Governor repayments adjusted accordingly. Energy
Governor is a genuine partnership approach that seeks to minimise risk to the
school and to achieve a “Win Win” for both parties.

Endurance
lighting case studies
Chalmor
has published three case studies that demonstrate the energy and maintenance
savings that Endurance can achieve:
Food
Manufacturing: When Heinz FCF (frozen and chilled foods) acquired Ross
Foods an inspection of the Worstead factory production area quickly highlighted
the need for improved lighting. The existing system was running on 250 and
400 watt MBF lighting that had dramatically deteriorated and on average produced
20 failures a year. As the fittings were directly above the food
processing equipment, replacing the lamps often disrupted production. www.chalmor.co.uk/newsletter/Endurance Heinz Newsletter.pdf
Leisure:
Keyworth Leisure Centre in Nottingham has cut its lighting bill by two-thirds
thanks to Endurance. The centre was constructed in the mid-seventies,
offers two indoor swimming pools, gymnasium, a multi-purpose hall, crèche, and
smaller areas for specialist sports and social activities. Including time
set aside for cleaning, the building is occupied from 5:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.
every day except Christmas Day, leading to an almost constant lighting demand.

Manufacturing:
EKC Technology Ltd, part of the DuPont Group, supply specialist chemical
solutions to the microelectronics and related industries. In the past year they
have reduced their energy consumption on lighting by around 50 per cent by
installing Chalmor's Endurance system. What's more, EKC are also enjoying
Endurance's other major benefit of virtually maintenance free lighting
eradicating the need to expose staff to the risk of working at height.

Petrol
Station achieves a 50% reduction in lighting costs
When a
major petrol station operator with over 800 sites in the UK upgraded one of its
urban sites in the south east, it replaced existing external light fittings with
a modern, energy efficient alternative. This step was taken in order to reduce
electricity consumed in lighting by 67%; the projected payback was just 2.25
years. The new fittings also improved the quality of the forecourt's
lighting, a known significant factor in customers' choice of stop, and at the
same time much reduced the cost and inconvenience of lighting maintenance.

Lighting
maintenance is to become a major Health and Safety issue
It now
seems highly likely that the Health and Safety legislation is to be tightened up
so that the UK is in line with EU Directive to tackle the problems of falls from
height, which is the single biggest cause of deaths in the work place and the
second biggest cause of major injuries. Three local education authorities
are to work with the Health & Safety Executive to address the issue of falls
from height.
Clearly
lighting maintenance is an issue where it is necessary to work at height and
Endurance with a 60,000 hour life which is 7 years when left running 24 hours
per day, is clearly a major benefit that can help with reducing this risk as
well as saving energy.

UK
Government adopts EU Green paper on building energy performance
The UK
Government is now adopting the EU Directive on the energy performance of
buildings, with the aim of having it in place at the end of a 'discretionary
period'. This is expected to have a major impact on the use of energy-efficiency
devices and systems in the building sector, in particular on older buildings as
they are renovated.
The
background to the directive is increasing concern on the EU's growing reliance
on external energy sources, currently at 50% of consumption, and expected to
rise to 70% by 2030. With little scope for increasing energy production, the
emphasis is being put on increasing the efficiency of the two largest
consumption sectors, residential and tertiary (buildings, offices etc.).
Once a
common approach to measuring energy performance is agreed (the UK has had its
own in place for some time), all new and refurbished buildings as they are
completed will be expected to perform to a minimum efficiency standard.
Heating installations have been singled out for particular attention, and any
with an output above 10kW will be regularly inspected for compliance. It is
thought that energy consumed in buildings for heating, air conditioning hot
water and lighting could be cut by as much as 22% by the year 2010 if best
practice on energy efficiency were to be used throughout the building sector. If
this were to happen, this would contribute around 20% to the EU's Kyoto
commitment on carbon dioxide emissions.
